Notes for 2026

  • Two full moons in the Tamil month of Margazhi: the full moon of 3 January 2026 and the one of 24 December 2026 both fall in Margazhi, because the Tamil month spans mid-December to mid-January.
  • Karthigai Pournami (23–24 November) coincides with Karthigai Deepam on 24 November 2026, so expect the year’s heaviest crowds. See Karthigai Deepam 2026.
  • Chithirai Pournami (30 April – 1 May) is traditionally one of the busiest Girivalam nights.
