One day in Tiruvannamalai

In one day you can take darshan at Arunachaleswarar Temple, visit Sri Ramanasramam and the caves on Arunachala, and either walk part of the Girivalam path or return to the temple for evening worship. This is a suggestion; adjust it to the temple timings and your pace.

Evening: choose one

  • Girivalam (full or partial). Start from the temple around sunset. The full 14 km takes 4–6 hours; a partial walk along Chengam Road with an auto back takes 1–2 hours. See the Girivalam guide.
  • Evening darshan. Return to the temple before about 7:30 PM for the evening poojas.

If it’s a full moon

Swap the order: darshan early, rest in the afternoon, and start Girivalam after sunset within the Pournami tithi. Expect crowds everywhere, and book your room early.

Common questions

What can I see in Tiruvannamalai in one day?

Morning darshan at Arunachaleswarar Temple, Sri Ramanasramam, the walk up to Skandashram and Virupaksha Cave, Adi Annamalai Temple, and in the evening part of Girivalam or a return to the temple.

Can I do Girivalam on a one-day trip?

Yes, if you are fit and start early or in the evening. The full 14 km takes most people four to six hours, so a one-day visit with Girivalam leaves little time for anything else.
